When we saw this shiny clam soap dish with opening lid, in the most interesting little antique store in Monte San Salvino in Tuscany, Italy in the summer of 2020, we fell in love with it instantly.
The shape is familiar but the little lobster on top of the shell and the feet that are fish heads are super detailed and make it a truly special item.
We think it is gilded brass. It has been signed at the bottom of one of the fish feet with ' Made in Italy for Bonwitt Teller'.
Bonwitt Teller was a luxury department house in New York founded by Paul Bonwit in 1895, and later a chain of department stores. The store went bankrupt in 1989.
- Signed ' Made in Italy for Bonwitt teller'
- second half 20st century
- 7 x 11 x 14 cm
NB this is a vintage item and it has some dents and signs of it's age. But overall it is in a very good vintage condition.
