Marieke Ariëns Interior Objects

Marieke Ariëns creates whimsical sceneries and extraordinary objects where animals and natural materials like (gem)stones and shell take a leading role.

A good example is the impressive antique dome which houses a school of painted pufferfish (Sold). The fish have been colored in an intense Prussian blue, but their lips are of a contrasting light gold color,  therefore producing a fairy tale-like scene that is absurd and magnificent at the same time.

Nature and its treasures are something that have always fascinated Marieke. During her university studies, she started collecting antique taxidermies. Marieke now has an interesting collection and is always on the lookout for an extra special addition. “What nature creates is so spectacular that the art of trying to recreate a small part of that, and adding a bit of absurdity to it, is my absolute dream job!“

Marieke is one of the founders of Curiosa Cabinet, but has left the store in October 2020 to be able to fully commit to her artistic works. We are very happy to still be able to sell her pieces of art. Please visit her website for more information on all her creative activities.

NB Not all items by Marieke Ariëns Interior Objects are available online, so please come by the store in Amsterdam to, for example, see her great silver 'Athena' and a large pufferfish with gemstone eyes.
